Find the Space to Think

Swap the home office for an owner-operated clifftop retreat with fast Wi-Fi, inspiring ocean views and the freedom to focus while enjoying the Great Ocean Road.

Designed for professionals, couples and families who need to stay connected while enjoying the Great Ocean Road.

Modern work gives us plenty of communication, but not always enough time to think. Between emails, notifications and back-to-back meetings, uninterrupted focus has become increasingly rare.

Marengo Views offers something different.

Whether you’re planning a midweek escape, extending a family holiday or simply looking for a change of scenery, it’s a place where you can stay productive without giving up everything that makes the Great Ocean Road so special.

For me, the biggest difference is the quiet. No traffic. No open-plan office noise. Just the sound of the Southern Ocean in the background.

Start the Day Differently

Most mornings begin with a walk into Apollo Bay and back, a run along Marengo Beach, or a walk along the Great Ocean Walk towards Shelly Beach before work.

One of the things I love most is watching the day begin. Even in winter, it’s not unusual to see people of all ages heading into the ocean for an early morning swim or dip, while others practise yoga beside the beach as the sun rises.

There’s something about this coastline that draws people outdoors, whatever the season.

If I’m up early, I’ll often take my coffee onto the covered east-facing balcony off the master bedroom and watch the sunrise spread across the Marengo Reefs Marine Sanctuary, the rock pools and the Southern Ocean.

Those quiet moments give me time to think, reflect and reset before opening the laptop. Instead of jumping straight into emails and meetings, I begin the day with a clear mind and a sense of perspective.

By the time I sit down at the upstairs workspace, I’m ready to focus on what matters most.

A Workspace That Changes With Your Day

One of the things I enjoy most is that I naturally move between different workspaces throughout the day. Rather than sitting in the same chair from morning until evening, I choose a space that suits the task, the time of day and even the light.

Sunrise Balcony

Start the day with coffee and a clear mind.

  • Covered balcony: east-facing balcony off the master bedroom
  • Morning coffee: a peaceful place to start the day
  • Planning time: ideal for reviewing emails, planning and quiet thinking
  • Ocean outlook: views over the Marengo Reefs Marine Sanctuary, rock pools and Southern Ocean
  • All-weather comfort: covered so it remains usable in different conditions

Upstairs Ocean Workspace

Your primary workspace overlooking the Southern Ocean.

  • Panoramic views: writing desk beside ocean-view windows
  • Main workspace: where I spend most of my workday
  • Meeting ready: ideal for Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Webex meetings
  • Everyday work: great for emails, presentations and focused thinking
  • Natural light: quiet surroundings with uninterrupted ocean views

It’s where I do my best thinking.

Downstairs Home Office

Ideal for technical work and a second screen.

  • Second screen: dedicated workspace with a 34-inch ultrawide monitor
  • Full setup: wireless keyboard and mouse
  • Detailed work: ideal for spreadsheets, presentations and technical tasks
  • Winter comfort: positioned beside the cosy gas log fire
  • Deck views: ocean and deck outlooks to your left

Main Ocean Deck

Finish the day outdoors with the sound of the waves.

  • Afternoon workspace: ideal for afternoon or early evening work
  • Wrap-up tasks: great for final emails, planning tomorrow or thinking through ideas
  • Fresh air: enjoy the changing light, ocean breeze and Southern Ocean views
  • Open-air focus: a reminder that not every workspace needs four walls

Both levels have split-system heating and cooling, so whether it’s a warm summer afternoon or a wild winter’s day on the coast, there’s always a comfortable place to work.

Better Breaks. Better Thinking.

Whenever I need a five-minute break, I’ll usually wander downstairs to make a coffee.

Looking out across the deck and the Marengo Reefs Marine Sanctuary, there’s always something happening.

Australian Fur Seals: resting on the reef below

Surfers: catching waves at Marengo Point when the swell is right

Walkers: beginning the Great Ocean Walk

Divers and anglers: often seen around Harrison Beach

Bay activity: cargo ships, fishing boats and jet skis occasionally passing through the bay

Rock pools: families exploring at low tide

Every tide brings something different. Five minutes later, I head back upstairs refreshed and ready for the next meeting.

One of the biggest things I’ve noticed is how much easier it is to find genuine focus here. The quiet surroundings, fresh sea air and the freedom to move between different workspaces throughout the day help me clear my head and concentrate without the usual distractions.

I often finish the day feeling like I’ve done better work—not because I worked longer, but because I spent more time thinking clearly, solving problems and doing the kind of deep, uninterrupted work that’s becoming harder to find.

Work, Then Truly Switch Off

One of my favourite routines is walking the Great Ocean Walk to Shelly Beach. Sometimes I’ll head out before the workday begins. Other days I’ll finish a little earlier and walk there an hour or two before sunset.

The changing light, the sound of the waves and the fresh sea air are the perfect way to clear my head before returning home for dinner.

Clear your head: fresh sea air and the sound of the waves

Change the rhythm: replace the daily commute with sunrise over the reef

Better breaks: swap phone scrolling for seals, surfers and ocean views

End refreshed: finish the day feeling recharged instead of drained

Perfect for Couples and Families

Marengo Views is equally suited to couples who both work remotely. One person can take Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Webex meetings upstairs while the other works downstairs using the ultrawide monitor, giving both people the space to concentrate without competing for the dining table or working around each other’s meetings.

Travelling during the school holidays? It’s just as practical. Join your morning meetings, close the laptop, then spend the afternoon exploring Marengo Beach, Apollo Bay, the Great Ocean Walk or the Otways together.
